Review: Twin Hearth Buffet

Twin Hearth Buffet at Twin Rivers, Lincoln, RI

One Sweet Deal

By Lenore Danesco The whole idea of Mother's Day is to give Mom the kind of day she would chose for herself. We know that now and then our Mom enjoys the opportunity to go to a casino. So we decided what could be a better idea for Mother's Day then to take Mom to the newly remodeled Twin River Casino in Lincoln, RI and treat her to a great Mother's Day meal at the Twin River's "Twin Hearth Buffet". This meant that not only would Mom get a few chances at the video slot machines, we would all get a chance to enjoy a dinner chosen from the elaborate buffet menu.

What's to Eat We chose the "Twin Hearth Buffet " because we assumed there would be plenty of eating options to please everyone in our group and that the portions would be whatever you wanted them to be. We weren't disappointed. When you go to the "Twin Hearth Buffet" you don't just get to choose one main dish and a few sides, you get to choose from a full medley of eye pleasing menu items

In all the "Twin Hearth Buffet" lays out 14 stations where you can stop with your big white plate and make a selection. We had a lot of favorites. We are a salad loving group and so that's where we began. The greens were surprisingly fresh and there was lots to mix with them . Potatoes were offered in their own setting Mom loves sweet potatoes and she found them shelled and blended for her, all ready to eat. She also loves asparagus which she told us was perfectly cooked with just a little bit of bite left and not soggy. On to the meats, Mom and Dad both stood hesitatingly in front of the carving station where a very pleasant carver sliced off a rare piece for Mom and a more well done slice for Dad. When Dad asked if he could have just a half slice, he got a smile and a pleasant response and the meat re-sliced to meet his request.

We are a family with a little bit of Italian in our heritage, and we definitely have Italian taste buds, so we made sure to leave some room on our plate for the Italian treats that were being prepared right in front of us in a huge industrial sized skillet. The aroma was almost enough but we agreed to try out the pasta as it came fresh to the serving dish and of course who could pass by a mini pizza slice , again coming fresh out of the oven.

The only problem that we found at "Twin Hearth Buffet " was that one couldn't possibly sample from every one of the stations, but they all were enticing. We totally skipped by the Raw Bar and other seafood options as they aren't our total favorites.. We also didn't sample from among the many fried foods that were plentiful and delicious looking, we all are watching our cholesterol and saving our fat splurge for dessert.

We were glad we did because desserts were freshly made and tempting. Even though we had really stretched ourselves during dinner, we couldn't be in the presence of that many desserts without taking a few nibbles. While all the cakes, cookies, and cheese cakes were calling to us, we walked on by to the strawberry shortcake. While we were a little disappointed that the strawberries were not fresh bu rather a defrosted frozen variety, the fresh whipped cream and shortcake seemed to make up for that lacking. It was a great meal .

Prices You get nothing for nothing, but what you get at the Twin Hearth Buffet at Twin River in Lincoln, RI is a lot for a comparatively little . For under $15 you can roam the length and breadth of the buffet and eat what and how much you choose, stay as long as you wish and enjoy complimentary beverages This is an incredible value that can be legitimately offered because Twin River Casino is betting that you will stay after you eat and spend lots more money on their thousands of slot machines. Most do, but no one has to. We stayed for a while but lost very little and so felt we had come away with a great deal and more importantly a good meal for Mom.

Service and atmosphere. Because the "Twin Hearth Buffet" is by definition a self serve operation there is not a lot of contact with a waitress. What we did find is that once we had paid our flat rate admission we were taken to a table by a hostess and immediately visited by a waitress who welcomed us and then, recognizing us as neophytes, explained how to proceed. We were grateful. We also gave her our beverage order which she promptly filled. The waitress was always in our general area and pleasantly willing to respond to any need, but we really had few. We did observe her bringing drinks as needed to tables around us, maintaining a friendly approach as she went about her work.

The general atmosphere at the "Twin Hearth Buffet " was pleasant and lively. Obviously many people eating at the "Twin Hearth Buffet" had not just come for dinner but were in between stints on the casino floor. This seemed to play out positively as most everyone seemed in a jovial mood. There must have been a few tables where there were folks who were down on their luck, but we honestly didn't see many long faces. Best of all the layout of the"Twin Hearth Buffet" really helps you to forget you are in a casino, your really just feel like you are in a very special restaurant with some incredible choices to make.

We truly enjoyed our Mother's Day event at Twin River's "Twin Hearth Buffet". We finally used our heads and went to a place we knew Mom would enjoy. The real bonus was that it is practically brand new, which makes everything just a little nicer, fresher, and more guest friendly.
